BUTTERFLIES & cards
5/11/17
Students completed making their butterflies by painting it in with colored tempera, outlining in black, cutting out, and pasted onto a background paper. Mrs. Jehling and Mrs. Valdry's classes worked on creating a special mother's day card by drawing a flower from observation and then cutting out to put on a folded construction paper.
Color mixing, Stamp making, & Butterflies
4/5/17
We reviewed the primary colors and what makes them so special. Each student was given a straw and spooned drops of red, yellow, and blue onto the paper. They used their breath by blowing into the straw to move the colors around. They shared the results with their classmates and discovered that when the colors mixed together they made the secondary colors, orange, green, and purple.
Students created their own stamps using model magic clay. They sculpted them by rolling into little balls and using forks, straws, and wooden skewers to make textures in the clay. When the clay dried they used their stamps to create interesting patterns on their paper.
Students have started a new project making butterflies. We first watch a brief video of the lifecycle of a butterfly. We looked at the shape of it and determined that the butterfly is symmetrical. We began to draw a butterfly together step by step. Students will work this month at completing their butterfly drawing and painting it to finish it off.
self portraits
3/1/16
Students learned about general facial proportions and how to draw a self-portrait through directed drawing. First students drew their face with a patterned background, then outlined their drawing with sharpie. They completed the final stage of the project this week by coloring in and painting their self-portrait.
